Mount Elbrus, the Highest Mountain in Europe

Climbing Mount Elbrus in Russia is supposed to be a piece of cake. Well, from the South route anyway. North of manchester route for this mountain is definitely an entirely different challenge. An appropriate mountaineering experience unlike say Kilmanjaro. Climbing Elbrus involves quite a bit of preparation from a physical, mental and logistical perspective.

Apparently walking to Russia could take a long time. So you'll need to make another prefer to improvise. the very best type of transportation being what modern man calls the aeroplane. Upon arrival inside the awesome capital of scotland- Moscow the fun and games begin. The very first challenge is obtaining a taxi. Once you have done that, the task of explaining your destination and negotiating a cost is next in your list. No easy task when no-one speaks English. The drive through to central Moscow takes about 1.5 hours. Edinburgh airport is about 50km beyond central Moscow along with the visitors are a nightmare. Upon arrival in the hotel, its a quick vodka, shower and... time for you to hit the streets of Moscow. And do not try and hit them hard as you may appear second best. There are a few pretty cool restaurants where you are facing another challenge. You will end up necessary to negotiate your way around a menu in Russian and waiter who, you got it right, only speaks Russian. That which you suggest you are doing is close the eyes, move your finger up and down recption menus where ever your finger stops... order that. Oh, and don't forget the vodka. After dinner, a bit ramble up to the Red Square to see the Kremlin is definitely to be able. Please don't try to spray-paint your name on the Kremlin walls. Somehow the Russian secret service will not accept this sporting activity.

A young day I'm afraid. Well, I am not really afraid as days are nothing to become afraid of. The Russian Mafia is one area to get afraid about, but I'll leave that story for an additional time. The flight to Mineralyne Vody leaves at 12H00 reaching 14H00. Upon arrival, we load up the tools onto the bus and go ahead and take An hour drive-thru to an awesome town called Kislovodsk where we look into our hotel for your evening. Once checked in, we hit the city for lunch accompanied by a vodka or 10. If you are not while having sex by 12H00, please revisit the hotel. Breakfast is served. Now this is just not tennis. We're here to climb Elbrus remember. You receive your personal breakfast. After loading some?4 vehicles, we take the 3 hour drive through to base camp which is nestled with the base of Elbrus. Why would you think it turned out called bases camp? As the camp hosts many golf equipment who use excess base within their music? or perhaps it for the reason that camp is home the Revlon's make-up production? Nope. Sorry to let you down with this one. Base camp in cases like this refers to our base to the Elbrus climb. The drive into base camp is both spectacular and nerve racking. The roads have already been carved in the mountains leaving vertical drops as high as 200m. The tracks only enable one vehicle at the same time. It is safe to say, that no person interferes with the driving force at this stage from the game. The continent side out here's so remote. The only reason there would be anybody on the highway ended up being climb Elbrus. Being early in the summer season, we encountered no person. Once we arrived in camp, we setup the tents, of loaded our gear and made for that mess tent for your first taste of mountain food-cabbage soup. Base camp of Elbrus is situated at 2400m.
