R3 to Integrate Corda Platform with Azure

Distributed ledger technology (DLT) company R3 is moving to comprehensively incorporate its Corda platform with Microsoft's Azure cloud service.

The expanded partnership was announced yesterday with both firms planning to provide "effortless deployment" of Corda and its networks on Azure, simplifying the process of putting up Corda nodes and networks for enterprises, and thus saving the time and costs involved in deployment, according to a press release.

“Deepening our relationship with Microsoft helps put Corda at the fingertips of millions of businesses across the globe. The platform gives companies complete freedom to develop and deploy innovative DLT-based solutions to their customers’ specific challenges. Integrating Corda with Azure streamlines and simplifies the development and deployment process and ultimately helps businesses expedite commercial deployment of CorDapps,” said David Rutter, the CEO of R3

With this development, Microsoft is giving clients less hassles and more time to focus on creating "real-world business solutions, applications and pilots," shared Peggy Johnson, executive vice president at Microsoft.

“Blockchain technology has the potential to unlock incredible value for businesses across industries. By expanding our partnership with R3, we’re making it easier for our customers to harness blockchain technology on Microsoft Azure so they can focus on building real-world business solutions, applications and pilots,” said Johnson in the release.

R3, a DLT conglomerate startup with more than 100 enterprise members, initially made the partnership public with Microsoft in April last year. The deal gives consortium members access to 45 cloud-based tools on its Azure platform, over and above Microsoft's blockchain-as-a-service offerings.

Dilan Rajasingham, Head of Emerging Technology at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, remarked on the key partnership:

“As an early investor in R3, Commonwealth Bank has developed deep experience in distributed ledger technologies, and our early adoption of cloud technology has delivered significant benefits to our organization and our customers. Deeper integration of the Corda platform with Azure will enable CBA to better scale our distributed ledger experimentation and help keep CBA at the forefront of technology innovation in financial services.”
