Columbus Monument - With a height of 60meters and a weight of 205 tons, the Monument a Cristofor Colom stands proudly at the Plaça del Portal de la Pau. Originally built for the World Exhibition in the year 1888, it has an iron column totally covered with a variety of allegorical figures. You will find around the base a string of reliefs portraying the various important phases in the life of Columbus and his voyages of discovery. A 26ft high statue of Columbus pointing out to the sea adorns the top of the column. You can climb up the structure in an elevator and have a look at the beautiful views of the port and the city.
